Using mobile advertising to drive twitter following
4INFO, the largest provider of free text message alerts and information in the United States, conducted a test last month to see if they could use mobile advertising to get consumers to start following brands on Twitter. Overall, it seems to have worked, although 4INFO is not taking all of the credit. Overall results for some of the brands are as follows:
TurtleWax, which saw its followers jump by 3,033%
United Fighting Championships jumped by 2,001%
Microsoft Exectweets grew by 522%
HFM Road and Track grew by 69%
NBA grew by 49%
Eggland’s Best Eggs grew by 66%
Twitter says “No ads.” But we’ll see.
Twitter’s Biz Stone came out today and said that the darling of Silicon Valley isn’t considering an ad-based business model. From what I can gather, they’re pretty much saying that it’s not that original. (Um yeah?) Anyway, looks like they’re going to try to monetize the service based on apps and functionality which we’ll probably see later this year. Sounds great guys, let me know how that works out for you because as far as I can tell, advertising is the ONLY business model that Twitter can use. Since at the end of the day it’s an app, and people are going to have a hard time justifying paying for more apps for their app. Doesn’t make much sense to me. But we’ll see.
